JOE is a warm, cheeky and loving husband to MARY. Both of them are over-the moon when their daughter is due to be born just days before Christmas. Tragically, both Mary and their daughter - LITTLE HOLLY die during labour.

T en years later Joe has never fully recovered. Only the manifestation of Little Holly - as such, his imaginary ‘daughter’ has kept him going. Part Mary and part Joe, one minute she’s a clued-up, feminist, tour-de-force. The next she’s a piss-taking, windup merchant.

J oe is renovating a café for BIG HOLLY - a smart, funny woman escaping a bad relationship and sexist corporate twattery. Joe is smitten and eventually plucks up the courage to ask her out. Everything is going well until Little Holly tells him that if he falls in love with Big Holly she will have to ‘leave’. To add insult to injury, Big Holly’s super-slick ex, MARCUS then shows up. Joe retreats back into his shell, avoiding Big Holly until she catches him secretly painting a stunning mural in the café. At the bottom of the mural are four words. For Holly at Christmas.

T hey open up to each other and finally fall into bed. Everything is blissful until Big Holly is offered the career of a lifetime in New York. Joe overhears and tells Big Holly she should go to New York, believing he’s destined to forever be alone. Later, when tending Mary’s grave he confides in ORLA, a midwife who did her best to help Mary when she was in labour. Orla tells Joe that he needs to be open to the possibility of moving on with his life.

J oe is still divided. Does he say goodbye to his daughter or take a chance at finding love again? In order for Joe to continue with his life, Little Holly has to leave. After a bittersweet departure Joe finally breaks-down and his grief is fully released.

B ig Holly too has a crisis of conscience. Is it time for her to love again? In a final dash to find Joe she discovers he’s different. There’s a glimmer of his original self. He’s made the decision to move on, but would never force her in to give up on her dreams. But Holly has new dreams…and they include Joe.
